The NZ Transport Agency is making major changes across the board to how it regulates the heavy vehicle transport sector, as part of the regulatory compliance review. That includes reviewing the Operator Rating System.
The Transport Agency is aware of industry concerns with some aspects of ORS, and has been planning to review the system to address those concerns. That work has now been picked up as part of the broader regulatory compliance review.
Safety is our top priority and is at the core of why we are making changes to how we approach regulation.
While we won’t know exactly what changes will be made until the review is complete, it is likely that more compliance data will be included in the ORS calculations that produce an operator’s score.
The review will begin in the first quarter of 2019.
